Commission on English Language Program Accreditation
The Intensive English Program (IEP) of the Maryland English Institute has been accredited by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA). CEA is a specialized agency for the accreditation of English language programs and institutions in the United States.
CEA is the first national accrediting agency with the singular purpose of accrediting programs that prepare non-English speaking international students to enter the higher education system in the United States. CEA is recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education as a national accrediting agency.
Programs and institutions that seek accreditation by CEA undergo a rigorous review. The Maryland English Institute was required to evaluate its compliance with the CEA Standards for English Language Programs and Institutions by submitting a self-study report to CEA. The extensive report included
- a response to each of the 44 standards
- a narrative description for each response
- an evaluation with supporting documentation
After submitting this report to CEA, the Maryland English Institute participated in a 2-day on-site review by trained peer reviewers who sought to verify the report and determine whether MEI indeed met CEA’s standards.
The IEP of MEI has been accredited since December 2009 and agrees to uphold the CEA Standards for English Language Programs and Institutions.
